Avalon Shower

IS THIS POSSIBLE??? CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN THIS?
Okay, so, my mom said she was driving our ’05 Avalon Limited (if it matters) down the road at about 50 mph. She said, “I was just driving normally, and I heard what sounded like a sonic boom and I thought someone hit me, but I was alone. I thought if I blew a tire, but the car was still going in a still line. Next thing I know, I was being showered by glass from the sunroof.” I looked at the car, and since it was tempered glass, it cracked into very tiny little pieces. There is also a lump, like it expanded. She said she just had the fan on, not even A/C. If it helps, the temperature was about 43 degrees Fahrenheit (for our international users, about 6 Celsius). My dad scotch taped it for the time being, and I don’t feel that’s safe. Can anyone just give me some insight on this, because I just don’t see how this happened.
BY THE WAY, the temperature I mentioned earlier was the outside temperature.
from my experience in the automotive Business the sunroofs are like built proof it so hard to an impassible point to brake but i do not know what happen there .
the question is how hot was is out side was really hot or this happen just recently in the winter ? my point is back in 1997 we went for visit to Dubai it was so hot we had the AC on blast the Temperature in the car was like 53f abut 13 -14 c and out side on the high ways was about 107f 43c driving for about 1.45 min going from Dubai to Abou Dabi out of no where the front windshield start to crack and then it exploded like boom the driver was covered by blood but he is ok . so what i think it is hot / cold thing .
