Duke of Bedford

$92.4

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The titles of Earl or Duke of Bedford (named after Bedford, England) were created several times in the Peerage of England. It was first created for Hugh the Poor de Beaumont, and then, second, for Enguerrand VII de Coucy, soninlaw of Edward III, in the 14th century. Later, a Dukedom of Bedford was created for Henry IVs third son, John, who later served as regent of France. It was created again in 1470 for George Neville, nephew of Warwick the Kingmaker, and again in 1485 for Jasper Tudor, uncle of Henry VII. The Russell family currently holds the titles of Earl and Duke of Bedford. John Russell, a close advisor of Henry VIII and Edward VI, was granted the title of Earl of Bedford in 1551, and his descendant William, 5th Earl, was created Duke following the Glorious Revolution. The subsidiary titles of the Duke of Bedford, all in the Peerage of England, are: Marquess of Tavistock (created 1694), Earl of Bedford (1550), Viscount Petersborough (1526), Baron Russell, of Cheneys (1539), Baron Russell of Thornhaugh in the County of Northampton (1603), and Baron Howland, of Streatham in the County of Surrey (1695). Old Bedford River

Old Bedford River

$71.7

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Old Bedford River is an artificial, partial diversion of the waters of the River Great Ouse in the Fens of Cambridgeshire, England. It was named after the fourth Earl of Bedford who contracted with the local Commission of Sewers to drain the Great Level of the Fens beginning in 1630. The idea of an articial river running, as the Old Bedford River does, from Earith to Denver was not a new idea; it had been proposed as early as 1604 by the engineer John Hunt. The work on the Old Bedford River was financed by the Earl of Bedford and several other investors and was undertaken between 1630 and 1636, but the supervising engineer is not known.
