Art Class Clay?
Okay, so I’m really into Sculpture and Ceramics and my art teacher said if I made pieces at home she would fire them in the kiln at school. So I wanted to purchase some clay online. Although, I’m not quite sure what type of clay it is. (There are so many different types! =D). When I am creating my vessels it is a grey color, it is mostly smooth, you can feel and rocks in it or anything, after it has been put into the kiln it is a ivory, peach, or off white shade, (I don’t know the specific color), and after it has been through the kiln it has a rough texture to it. Then be glaze them and put them back in the kiln, and then our pieces are done!
So can anyone tell me what kind of clay I should buy?
And also can you tell me where to purchase it, and an inexpensive price?

Ask your teacher what kind of clay he wants you to buy. The difference in clay he will care about it at what degree clay gets hard (vitrifies). There is a number like cone5 or cone 10 which specifies how hot the kiln has to get to make the clay properly hard. Ask your teacher what kind of clay he usually uses and make sure you buy the same kind.
The other differences are color and the amount of grog (small hard pieces) are in the clay. Your teacher won’t care what variation you chose in those.
generally water based clay is fairly cheap. Phone around in art stores and compare availability and prices. If there is a ceramics store they are probably cheaper as they sell more. Also they can advice you about which type to buy.
But the very easiest thing to do is asking your teacher if you can buy some from the school.
