How long has your vacuum cleaner lasted?

I’m in the market for a new vacuum cleaner and I just wanted to know how long other people have owned their vacuum cleaner. It seems like my family is cursed with vacuum cleaners that quit working after only two, maximum, three years. Is this normal? Are vacuum cleaners meant to die an early death so we are forced to keep buying new ones? Any suggestions for a good strong vacuum with a long life span?

I have a Hoover Fold Away Bagless that has is almost 6 years old. I paid about $60 for it and I love it! You can purchase replace filters for them or if in a pinch, you can clean the filter yourself.(I use my hubby’s shopvac to clean mine.) It has on-board tools too.
