You do indeed get what you pay for. McCulloch aren’t the best brand on the block really and Spear and Jackson are hand tool makers primarily so you can bet they use a third party manufacturer for their strimmers.

I’d look for a straight shafted strimmer with a bump feed to twin strim lines and made by a professional choice name. Honda make an excellent four stroke version that I use that is pretty good for light professional use, but Stihl make good strimmers as do Husqvarna, but there are other professional choice strimmers out there that are cheaper.

Personally unless you’re driven by budget I wouldn’t opt for McCulloch or Spear and Jackson. You do get what you pay for and if you want one that works when you want it to every time then it will cost a little more.
