How long should I run a diesel engine?

I have a ’95 Chevy diesel panel truck that I have to start every night (to verify operability) and I’m wondering how long I need to let the engine run to prevent damaging or degrading the engine. Is starting the engine nightly too often? Should it be weekly possibly? Reasons for your answers would be appreciated. Thanks!

The best thing to do would be to start the engine twice a month and let it run until it is hot and the oil pressure gauge reads a little low, you may have to put the cover over the radiator to reach operating temp. I have a gasoline car and in the winter to reach op-temp I need to pack the grille with snow.
Also, you will want to roll it around a bit because when tires roll, they “bloom” meaning the tire protectant in the rubber comes to the surface to protect them from the sun. This also will prevent getting flat spots.
Starting the engine nightly is far too often and isn’t doing you any favors. Just let it get nice and hot so that the oil will burn off any nasty stuff that has collected in it. Oh, and remember to change the oil once in a while. I have noticed sitting cars to get real bad oil real fast.
