Is an engine mount considered part of the engine?

I bought a car from a guy named Craig who runs Hospitality Auto Inc. in Orlando, Florida and he gave me a 1 week/1,000 mile warranty on the engine and transmission. Within that week the car was making terrible noises and I took it in to find out that the engine mounts were bad. When I asked him to fix this under the warranty he tells me that engine mounts aren’t part of the engine. Is he correct or is he just trying to cheat me?
I offered to go 50/50 with him on it and he refused. His mechanic says it will cost $359 to fix the engine mounts.

Technically they are not part of the engine, but for crissake. The mounts were bad when you got the car. Mounts do not fail in one week or 1000 miles.

The guy does not probably HAVE to fix them, but he really ought to do the right thing and fix them.

If he doesn’t, then you might be able to try to make the case that they were broken when you took the car. A mechanic ought to be able to tell from dirt and stuff on the mount and the break if it just happened (which is possible) or if they have been that way for a while (which is more likely).
