Inherited a rare cherry chest,cat got on it, next day on the mirror glass finish was a cloudy paw print,HELP!?
The finish on this cherry piece is like a mirror finish that has been kept in pristine condition, cat jumps up and sits on it a minute when everyone is away, when we return, a cloudy paw print was left….I have tried every furniture polish on the market and it will not bring back the shine or take away the print….does anyone know anything that will work…I am just sick …and very mad at my cat! Thanks.
Before trying a hair dryer, use a small cloth with a few drops of rubbing alcohol on the backside of the chest ( to make sure it wont stain). If it doesnt stain, rub the alcohol in a back and forward motion with the grain. That will pull the moisture out. If it does stain, use about a teaspoon of mayonnaise with a soft cloth, rub it in the stain and put a tablespoon of mayo on the top. Let it sit overnight and wipe it away. I have NO idea of why mayo works, but I read it in a woodworker’s magazine years ago and have used it several times with success. Good luck and I hope this helps you.
