My 4 year old son had root canal on molar teeth with steel crown cap on it. Will he get new tooth in future?

Root canal done on molar teeth for 4 yr old toddler and once he grow up , will he get his new tooth. he has steel crown cap on it, so will it be a problem? I wanted doctor to do a white filling instead a crown but as per them, they cannot do white filling for large gap. Is it true? Please advise. thanks.

Once a baby tooth has had a root canal it needs a crown. If he is only 4, this tooth should be replaced, but probably not until 10-12 years of age. Permanent teeth usually begin erupting at 6. Everything he has now he should eventually lose. This is a common thing for baby teeth, especially where I live. There is no fluoride in the water here. Try not to let him drink anything other than sugar free or water between meals. Avoid frequent snacking. Get him a spin brush with an action figure he likes and a timer. It will help you a lot with his oral hygiene. Also, be sure to help him floss around the crown and back teeth at least 1 time a week, preferrably daily. If you start with the little flossers on the stick, they have bubble gum flavored or animal ones and he will be able to do this himself after some practice, but wouldn’t be able to use regular floss for some time.
