why does my horse scratch/rub her leg on things?
when she’s let out of the stables the first thing she’ll do is go to bath/gate/sink and scratch/rub her legs (hocks).
why does she do this?
what is the likely cause of the itching?
They either itch from irritation by something in her stall, or from her own excretions, or there may be another cause of dermatitis like bacterial or fungal infection, or parasites. Inspect the areas for crusts or bare patches. It is not common to have itching of the hocks without something causing it.
